Organization
The school system is governed by a five-member School Board appointed by Salem City Council. Members serve overlapping three-year terms. The Superintendent is the Board's chief executive officer and is appointed for a four-year term.
Functions

Primary functions of the School Board include overseeing the administration of the school system, setting policies for guiding the administration of the schools, and developing an annual school budget.

Meetings
School Board Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month beginning at 7:00 pm. Meetings are held in the Board Room of the School Administration Building at 510 South College Avenue in Salem.The meetings are open to the public and all interested citizens.
