Traffic and Transportation
Bus Riders
Bus riders will adhere to the following guidelines and conduct:
- Ride designated buses.
- Use the bus stop nearest their house.
- Have a parent's note signed by the principal or office staff to ride a different bus. This note should be given to the teacher during homeroom. All parent calls about transportation changes must be received in the office by 1:45 p.m.
- Obey the school bus driver.
- Sit and talk quietly.
- Obey rules and display appropriate behavior.
Bus Policy
Riding the school bus is a privilege extended to the students of the City of Salem Schools. Violations of bus regulations can result in the loss of that privilege. Misbehavior on the bus will be treated as any other disciplinary infractions, with penalties up to and including suspension or expulsion.
Traffic Flow
To keep the traffic areas safe and free flowing, follow these guidelines:
- Drop off children in the front school traffic circle. Please be sure to pull far enough ahead so that other cars may unload safely.
- Park in the designated visitor parking spaces if you need to enter the school or assist your child with a car seat.
- Don't park in the bus circle or the front of the school traffic circle.
- Don't park in handicapped spaces unless you are handicapped or have a handicapped child.
- Buses are released at 2:25 PM. Cars are NOT to leave the parking lot in the afternoon until the buses leave.
Afternoon Dismissal
All walkers and car riders will go to the gym while the buses are being loaded. When the buses are loaded, then walkers will be dismissed. Car riders will be dismissed as parents drive around to the gym parking area for pick-up of their child/children.
Car Riders and Walkers
- Car Riders and Walkers may enter the building beginning at 7:30 AM.
- Report to the cafeteria before school.
- Go to the gym after school. After the buses leave, students will be released.
- All parents and guardians must pick up their children from the gym. Parents are not to go to individual classrooms for obvious safety reasons.
Bike Riders
A bike rack is located behind the school on the cement pad between the two buildings. We are pleased to offer this opportunity for older children with prior parental permission. Students in grades 4 & 5 who wish to ride their bikes to and from school each day must:
- Have parents complete a permission form to be kept on file in the office. (Permission forms are available by contacting the main office.)
- Park bike inside the bike rack secured with their personal lock.
- Report to the cafeteria if arriving early (before 7:45) or to their classroom if on time.
- Report to the gym (with car and van riders) after school to be dismissed after the buses depart.
- Wear a helmet and other safety equipment for safety.
