The White House

The White House in Washington, DC, is also called the Executive Mansion. John Adams was the first president to live there, and our United States presidents continue to call it home during their terms as president. British soldier burned the White House in 1814, and the walls were painted white afterwards.

The White House has 132 rooms total including the Green Room, the Blue Room, the Red Room, the Oval Office, the East Room, the State Dining Room, the China Room, and the Library. Over the years, each first family has added to the decorations of the White House.

You can learn more about the White House by visiting the White House Kids Web Site.
