Biography
James M. "Jim" Paxton received his Bachelor's of Music Education
in 1979 from James Madison University, and his Master in Music
from James Madison in 1986.
Previous job experience includes being the Band/Choral
Director at Rich Valley Elementary/H.S. in 1980 - 82,
and the Band/Choral Director at Natural Bridge Elementary/High School in 1983 -
85.
In the fall of 1985, he joined the staff at Andrew Lewis Middle School,
where he served as the Band Director for 16 years.
During that time, he was also the Assistant Director of "The Pride of Salem"
Marching Band.
Upon the retirement of longtime Director of Bands - Dennis Reaser -
he was named in January 2001 as Reaser's replacement at Salem High School,
where he continues to serve as Director of Bands, and Chair of the Performing
Arts Department.
He was raised in Salem,
Virginia and attended Andrew Lewis High School wherehe graduated in 1975.
Married to Salem High School Special Education

they are the parents of two daughters - Jessica (Salem High '01) and Jennifer
(Salem High '04).
