This course explores the possibilities of the computer as a medium to create images and illustration through the use of popular software. Concepts and sketches are developed technically, and the computer is applied as a tool to produce finished pieces. Personal approach and style are emphasized. Students will be exposed to one of the industry’s most powerful tools, Adobe Illustrator. They will create vector graphics; assign colors and other visual properties; transform objects by layering, rotating, resizing, grouping and skewing. You will explore the palettes; colors, strokes, layers and gradients.

Plugging in to the world of computer graphic design. "Without aesthetic, design is either the humdrum repetition of familiar cliches or a wild scramble for novelty. Without the aesthetic, the computer is but a mindless speed machine, producing effects without substance. Form without relevant content, or content without meaningful form."

Starting with the 2007 - 2008 school year, all of the computer graphic design classes are now dual enrolled with Virginia Western Community College. Students taking classes may receive college credit at VWCC and the credit may be transfered to other colleges and universities. The credit is given as ART 180 in the VWCC catalog. At the finish of the 2008 school year, 24 students finished their dual enrollment work. Starting the 2008 - 2009 year, we now have 27 dual enrolled for first semester. This is a great start and it shows the interest in our graphics program.
