IB Art

Students that have a real interest in art, this is the class for YOU.  This class is open to all students.  However, you must submit a portfolio and be accepted into the program by the end of your sophomore year.  To be eligible for this, you must have taken Art Foundations and Advanced Drawing by the end of your sophomore year.  The portfolio would then be filled with work from those classes, independent work, and any work done that can support the portfolio.  The more art courses you can fit in before this, the better it will be for you.  You can, and should, continue to take other art classes if scheduling permits.  This will only help with IB Art.

Any IB diploma candidates that need a 6th subject area should pick art!  In general, if you are an IB student, we can bring out talents in the art area that you may not have known you had!  The media you are exposed to in this two year, college credit class, is exceptional.  Most high schools do not offer what we teach in this class, don’t have the media, supplies, equipment, technology, skills, and room to have a class as indepth as this.  Students that go on to college, whether in art or not, have always considered the IB Art class as exceptional, college level, and extremely helpful for preparation for college.  The demand on the class is high, there are high expectations, but the results are worth it.

This two year course is based upon the requirements from International Baccalaureate Art and Design curriculum.  We follow the same format as is required, students test at the end of the second year to receive a score that can get them college credits.  The score is based on a journal (or two) that is kept throughout the two years, (30%) and the culminating senior show (70%) that shows the results of how the media and techniques were used by each student, and the talents exposed during the two years.

IB art is a fantastic opportunity to express yourself through your artwork.  Even if you have no idea what your interests of talents are, the program will pull those out of you.  The teachers will meet with you before the end of the sophomore year to explain the program.  Parents and students will get together to understand all the requirements.  Summer assignments will be given and students must return on the first day with those assignments completed.

Grades are based on the IB criteria for scoring.  Students are aware of what is required each 6 weeks, what each project and requirement is worth.  At least one new media is introduced each 6 weeks.  Students will develop a very individualized journal, style, theme, and portfolio.

If you like art, this IS the class for you!

The IB students recently went on a field trip that involved studying the art of Andy Goldsworthy. The students studied his concepts and style of art using natural materials in a natural setting. Please click on the logo to view the students and the work that they created.
