The Guidance and Counseling Program at West Salem is a comprehensive, sequential, and developmental program for students in grades K-5.  Students in grades K-2 attend classroom guidance classes once every four days for 30 minutes.  Students in grades 3-5 participate in a number of 4-8 week guidance units through out the school year.  All students receive lessons related to the National Standards of Learning which are divided into three areas: Academic, Career, and Personal/Social Development. Guidance classes are taught using a variety of materials: stories, discussions, art work, puppets, music, smartboard activities and role-playing.
