Academic Support
The counselor promotes a positive attitude toward learning.

  • Coordinates resources within the school to promote academic success by consulting with teachers, parents, and community resources:
       - Child Study and Eligibility Committee
       - Coordinates 504 plans

  • Provides orientation to new students and transition activities to Andrew Lewis Middle School.

  • Sponsors an SCA Welcoming Committee to welcome new students.

  • Provides classroom guidance classes on:
      -Study skills
      -Time management
      -Test taking skills
      -Goal setting

  • SOL (Standards of Learning) testing coordinator

Individual Counseling
Available to all students and may be requested by parents, students, or staff members. 

  • The counselor works one-to-one with a student to help him/her resolve problems and developmental concerns, enhance decision making skills and/or build coping skills.

  • It is short-term limited intervention (not intensive therapy).

Small Group Counseling
The counselor works with 2-6 students who have been referred for a similar issue.

  • The groups most often take place during lunch and Encore classes

  • Students are able to express their concerns in a safe environment where problem solving can take place.
