LIBRARY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Welcome to the West Salem Elementary School Library.

Library Hours: School Days from 7:30 am - 2:15 pm

Students in grades 2 - 5 are welcome to the library between 7:30 - 8:00 to read, exchange books, study, do homework, or take AR tests.

Classes visit the library once every four days for 30 minutes. 

Grades K, and 1, will visit the library to enjoy simple lessons in beginning library skills, as well as check out books at each visit.  

Grades 2 - 5 will alternate check out/reading sessions with 'detailed' lesson sessions integrating continuing library skills, beginning research techniques and technology.

Library Rules: 1. Use quiet, inside voices at all times.   2. Walk.   3.  Listen carefully to the teacher and each other   4. Follow directions.   5. Keep hands and feet to yourself   6. Raise your hand for help or questions.     7. Help take care of all materials.

Checkout Policies:

Grade 2 - 5 students may check out books for a period of two weeks, after which they become overdue. There is no fine for overdue materials, but the student will not be allowed to check out another book until the overdue item is returned or renewed. A book must be brought in to the Library to be renewed.

Kindergarten and First Grade students may check out one book for a period of one week, after which they become overdue.  There is no fine for overdue materials, but the student will not be allowed to check out another book until the overdue item is returned or renewed. A book must be brought in to the Library to be renewed.

Parents are allowed to check out additional books for their children.  Please see Mrs. Norman for details and limitations.

Lost and Damaged Books:  Damaged books will be repaired whenever possible.  Our library does have a 'book hospital' that will take care of our hurt materials.  However, students will be charged for the cost of a book that can not be repaired or one that is lost. Students will not be able to check out books until charges have been paid.
