Grouping of Students
Students are not generally grouped in grades K-5. In the event grouping is needed, teachers must follow the School Board Policy. This policy (6-40) states that grouping of students for instructional purposes shall be based solely on:
- The best interest of the student
- The educational level, or achievement level of the student
- The availability of space
- The best educational climate for learning
- The student’s best chance for success
Students in grades K-5 are heterogeneously grouped, with no homogeneous grouping being done in language arts or mathematics.
Grouping shall remain flexible in order to take advantage of the best educational research currently available.
