West Salem's Fourth Grade consists of 3 classes of approximately 21 students each. Students are taught in a departmentalized structure. Mrs. Chauvin teaches Math. Mrs. Edwards teaches Social Studies. Mrs. Atkins teaches Science and Word Study. All 3 teach language arts in their homeroom classes.
Students have resource areas daily which include 50 minutes of music once every eight days, 60 minutes of art every eight days, 30 minutes of gym six times in an eight day cycle, 30 minute library visits twice every eight days, and computer lab at least once a week. They also have guidance lessons based on the pillars of Character Counts each six weeks. The DARE officer visits fourth grade classrooms for four sessions in the fall. They also participate in Junior Achievement.
