West Salem Kindergarten consists of approximately 70 students, divided into 4 classrooms. The classrooms are self-contained and share one instructional aide. Teachers meet weekly to plan, allowing for continuity across the grade-level. However each teacher also incorporates her own personal perspective and style.

Students have resource areas daily, which include 30 minutes of music once a week, 30 minutes of library once a week, 30 minutes of computer lab once a week, 30 minutes of gym three times a week, and 30 minutes of art every other week. Students also visit guidance 30 minutes once a week, focusing on lessons based on the pillars of Character Counts (responsibility, respect, caring, citizenship, trustworthiness, and fairness). The DARE officer teaches 4 lessons to kindergarten in the spring.
